San Diego Sockers 8, Tacoma Stars 2
Soccer News: The San Diego Sockers ran rampant with an 8-2 victory over the Tacoma Stars at the ShoWare Center. With the win, the Sockers moved into second place in the Pacific Division with a 7-4 record.
San Diego raced out to a 6-0 halftime lead with six different goal-scorers. The pick of the bunch was Luan Sales Olivera‘s strike with 3.3 seconds left in the first quarter. The 27-year-old Brazilian who transferred from the Ontario Fury this week collected a pass and fired off a quick toe-poke from outside the arc to score a stunner on his Sockers debut.
San Diego was content to keep position for the majority of the second half. While Tacoma pulled back two goals through Adam West and Chase Hanson, Kraig Chiles and Matt Clare completed their doubles.
Chiles scored his second off a wicked deflection on a power-play (the Sockers went 2-3 on the evening) while Clare completed his brace off a neatly designed set-piece by powering the ball past Tacoma’s keeper at the near post.
The Sockers will look for their fourth win on the trot on Tuesday when they face off against the Milwaukee Wave at the Valley View Casino Center. Kick-off is set for 7:05pm PT.
