San Diego Sockers Take On Tacoma Stars in MASL Test
The San Diego Sockers are gearing up for a Pacific Division test as they prepare to host the Tacoma Stars on Friday night. Prior to the kickoff, the Sockers will hold a moment of silence in honor of the lives lost in the Colombian plane crash that was transporting Brazilian club Associação Chapecoense de Futebol.
MASL Soccer News: In one of the Major Arena Soccer League’s most anticipated matchups of the 2016-17 season, the San Diego Sockers will host the Tacoma Stars on Friday night at the Valley View Casino Center. Presidio Soccer League Night will kickoff at 7:35 p.m. PT.
Currently, the teams sit in the top two spots of the Pacific Division, have two of the league’s best goalkeepers, and will be looking to assert their early season title credentials.
The Sockers are 2-0 at home and will be relieved to return after a four-match road trip over the last three weeks. Tacoma is on a three-game winning streak, but will face a strong test versus the Sockers’ high flying offense (45 goals) and division leading defense (4.7 Goals Against Average).
Last week, Max Touloute and Matt Clare put on a stellar display, earning them Team of the Week honors to lead the front line. Touloute recorded 5 goals and 1 assist, while Clare notched 4 assists and 2 goals. Touloute is second on the team in goals (8), while Clare leads the MASL in assists (10).
Sockers Captain Kraig Chiles continues to score goals week after week as he currently is tied for second in the MASL with 11 goals to go along with his 3 assists. Chiles is second overall in Total Points (14). He (292) only needs 6 more goals to tie all-time Sockers Goal Scorer Branko Segota (298).
In a gesture of solidarity with the global soccer community, the Sockers will hold a moment of silence for the lives lost in the plane crash in Colombia, which included the majority of Brazilian First Division team, Associação Chapecoense de Futebol. The tragic accident claimed 71 lives and shocked the global soccer community.
