Second Place San Diego Zest Prepare for Week 7 of 2016 PDL Season
Week 7 in the 2016 PDL season prepares to kick off as San Diego Zest FC host LA Laguna FC on Saturday at Madison High School. Zest FC currently sit in second place of the Southwest Division behind FC Tuscon who gear up for a match against the Southern California Seahorses.
Soccer News: Heading into Week 7 of the PDL season we take a look at the Southwest Division that sees FC Tuscon sitting atop the table with San Diego Zest FC in second place. FC Tuscon prepare for a match this Saturday versus Southern California Seahorses, while Zest FC host LA Laguna FC at Madison High School.
The San Diego club is currently 4-1-3 on the season and sits three points behind FC Tuscon who are coming off a dominant performance versus OC Blues U23 in Week 6. Ventura County Fusion sit in third place behind Zest FC as they prepare to travel to take on OC Blues this weekend at Irvine Valley College.
FC Tuscon won the initial matchup with San Diego Zest in the first week of the 2016 PDL season with a 1-0 victory in San Diego. Zest FC are currently on an unbeaten streak as they prepare for its upcoming match against LA Laguna. San Diego won the first matchup between the two sides 2-1 at Citrus College in Glendora, California.
Zest FC are coming off a commanding 5-1 win versus FC Golden State Force in Week 6. Patrick McGrath provided a brace in the first half with Manuel Carrillo dishing out two assists in the away victory. Carrillo currently leads the club with three assists in six games with Borja Suarez Nunez recording two this season.
Matthew Hurlow-Paonessa, the Escondido native and Chico State forward, leads Zest with a total of five goals on the season in a total of four matches played. Goalkeeper Adam Allmaras leads San Diego with a total of 13 saves and three goals against in four matches.
San Diego Zest FC are enjoying a strong start to the club’s inaugural season in the PDL. The team consists of local talent reigning from notable universities such as San Diego State University, University of San Diego, Point Loma Nazarene University and powerhouse UCLA.
As the season heads into the final stretch, San Diego Zest will be looking to extend its successful season. With six games left to play, the standout opponent on the schedule will surely be FC Tuscon who will have to be prepared for an experienced Zest squad compared to the first time around.
