Scorpions Face Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas at Toyota Field
The San Antonio Scorpions will play their first match since winning the North American Soccer League (NASL) championship when they take on Major League Soccer (MLS) side FC Dallas in the 2nd Annual Deeproot Funds Cup. Kickoff at Toyota Field will be at 7pm on Saturday, February 28th.
The match will be San Antonio’s first of 2015, but it will be Dallas’ final match before the MLS regular season begins the following weekend, so they are expected to field a first-choice lineup. Coach Alen Marcina started training camp on February 16th and the players have been quickly getting back up to speed with two training sessions per day.
The Scorpions will return the nucleus of their 2014 title-winning side as Championship Final MVP Rafael Castillo, league assists leader Billy Forbes, El Salvadoran international Richard Menjivar, midfielder Josué Soto, forwards César Elizondo and Eric Hassli, plus defenders Julius James and Stephen DeRoux are all back for 2015.
San Antonio has also signed exciting young talent to bolster the squad. Eduar Zea and Cristian Palomeque both played internationally for Columbia at the youth level and Pablo Cruz is a former U.S. U-17 international.
Last year in this fixture, the Alamo City boys went toe-to-toe with their Texas MLS rivals as they tied FC Dallas 1-1 on a dramatic goal in stoppage time.
