Jane Campbell Named NWSL Player of the Week
Jane Campbell of the Houston Dash has been named NWSL Player of the Week following her nine-save performance versus the Washington Spirit. The award is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
Campbell’s season-high nine saves and clean sheet against the Washington Spirit helped her club earn a 1-0 victory in Week 17 and improve to 6-7-5 overall. The Dash is now in sixth place in the league standings and six points away from a playoff spot.
Campbell is second in the league in saves (64) and has tallied two shutouts during the 2018 NWSL campaign. This is the first time Campbell has earned Player of the Week honors.
Campbell had several key stops on the day, including a clean save in the 45th minute to deny Spirit midfielder Estefanía Banini’s strike from the edge of the penalty area. In the 81st minute, she saved an authoritative strike from Spirit forward Ashley Hatch to maintain Houston’s advantage. In 90 minutes of action, Campbell recovered four crosses and completed one pass into the final third of the pitch, according to Opta.
Houston returns to BBVA Compass Stadium on Sunday, August 5, to host Utah Royals FC in the club’s inaugural Salute to Women Veterans match. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
