Trish Meindl Memorial Soccer Festival Raises Nearly $25,000 For Scholarships
New York Youth Soccer News: Eight GU13 teams from the LIJSL played and raised money
The Rockville Centre Soccer Club of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) honored Trish Meindl‘s legacy on Saturday, August 11, at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex on Peninsula Boulevard.
Meindl, a long-time coach in the club, passed away from breast cancer earlier this year.
She grew up playing in the LIJSL’s Massapequa Soccer Club and also played for Farmingdale High School and Marist College.
Her memorial festival helped raise close to $25,000 towards the Trish Meindl Scholarship Foundation. Scholarships will be awarded to both high school and college female soccer players who embody Meindl’s drive and passion for the game as well as her spirit of selflessness.
Eight Girls-Under-13 teams from Rockville Centre, Farmingdale, Hewlett/Lawrence, Lynbrook/East Rockaway, and New Hyde Park played while raffle prizes and sales of apparel also helped raise funds for the foundation.
