LA Galaxy to host FC Dallas in U.S. Open Cup Semifinal
2016 OPEN CUP UPDATE: Four MLS clubs, the New England Revolution, Chicago Fire, FC Dallas and LA Galaxy, were all victorious in Wednesday night’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal Round to advance to the tournament Semifinals to be held on August 9 and 10.
This is a great year for the LA Galaxy and their incredible run in the Lamar Hunt U.S.Open Cup has been highly successful. Now, the LA team will host rival FC Dallas in the U.S. Open Cup semifinal on August 10 at 7 p.m. in their home court at StubHub Center
U.S. Soccer determined that the Texas side will travel to face in a blind draw conducted at Soccer House in Chicago on Thursday morning. Los Angeles have won their last 17 consecutive matches at home in the U.S. Open Cup.
The other contenders in the in the U.S. Open Cup semifinal are the New England Revolution who will host the Chicago Fire in the Eastern semifinal on August 9.
The Chicago Fire hold the highest priority to host the U.S. Open Cup final on Sept. 21, with the Galaxy coming in second, meaning that the Fire will host if they dispatch the Revolution regardless of their opponent. If the Revolution win and the Galaxy advance, then the Galaxy will host the Open Cup Final. The Revs are the only team that can not host the final.

Coached by the only 5 time MLS Cup winning head coach in the world, Bruce Arena is in his 8th season with the team. Since he took over in 2008, the on field performance of the LA Galaxy has soared. A former U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach, Arena holds the record for the most wins. If the LA Galaxy are making a run for the U.S. Open Cup title, it is good to have Arena at the helm with his years of experience.
The LA Galaxy has not made an appearance in the U.S. Open Cup semifinal since 2006 and the Angeles have not won the tournament since 2005, the year to be remembered when they won the U.S. Open Cup and the MLS Cup.
