Jack Jewsbury Hangs Up His Cleats and Joins Timbers As Director of Business Development
Transitioning from being a play maker on the field to becoming an important team member off the field, Jack Jewsbury will join the front office of the Portland Timbers following the conclusion of his 14-year playing career. As the Timbers’ director of business development, Jewsbury will serve as a project lead for the club’s corporate partnerships department.
MLS Soccer News: The Portland Timbers have announced that Jack Jewsbury will serve as the club’s new director of business development. One of only 10 MLS players to compete in 350 or more games in league history, Jewsbury joins the Timbers’ front office staff after an astounding 14-year playing career that included an MLS Cup championship and a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophy.
In his new role off the pitch, Jewsbury will serve as a project lead for the Timbers’ corporate partnerships department, helping develop new sponsorship opportunities. Jewsbury will also serve as an official ambassador for Portland’s community platform, Stand Together, and will be the lead spokesperson for Stand Together Week, as well as working as the project lead for the Timbers’ Fields for All project, the Rose City Road Trip and other community outreach initiatives.
“All of us at the Timbers are so pleased that Jack will be staying with the organization as director of business development,” said Mike Golub, president of business for the Timbers. “We know that he will bring to his new role the same passion, commitment and teamwork that made him so successful as a player.”
Jewsbury, who announced his retirement as a player this season, is one of just three players in league history to play 150 or more matches with two different teams in the league, ranking ninth in MLS history for games played (352).
Joining the Timbers ahead of their MLS expansion season in 2011, the 35-year-old recorded 157 appearances (139 starts) in six seasons with Portland, including 26 appearances (18 starts) in the team’s MLS Cup-winning season in 2015.
“It’s been an amazing six years playing for this club, and I’m thrilled to be continuing with the Timbers in my new role as director of business development,” said Jewsbury, who holds a business degree from Saint Louis University. “I’ve always been interested in the business side of the sport, and I’m excited to begin the next phase of my career.”
Jewsbury earned MLS All-Star honors in 2011, playing against Manchester United, after being voted to the First XI in the league. Additionally, Jewsbury was named the club’s Players’ Player of the Year in 2011 and was the recipient of Portland’s Unsung Hero award in 2013 and 2016.
In his final season with the Timbers, Jewsbury appeared in 23 matches (17 starts), starting 11 consecutive games late in the season, while tallying one goal and two assists.
