F.C. Golden State Advance to Semifinals of Volkswagen Junior World Masters
F.C. Golden State advanced to the semifinals of the Volkswagen Junior World Masters tournament in France following the club’s 2-0-2 group play result. The California club rolled past Italy 1-0 in the quarterfinal but were unable to get past Austria in the semifinal losing 1-2 in the closing minutes.
Youth Soccer Tournament News: Representing the United States at the Volkswagen Junior World Masters in France this past weekend, F.C. Golden State advanced to semi-finals as the only non-European team to do so. F.C. Golden State’s keeper was named “Overall Best Tournament Keeper,” preventing any other team from scoring until the semi-finals. This success marks the best result for a U.S. team in the history of the Volkswagen Junior World Masters. Twenty-one countries across five continents participated in this year’s tournament.
The F.C. Golden State tied with Russia (0:0) before winning the match against the Republic of Senegal (6:0). After a tie with Switzerland (0:0), the team beat France (2:0) and made it into quarter finals where it successfully scored against Italy (1:0). Unfortunately, the team was beat by Austria (1:2) in the semi-finals in the last minute.
The Junior Masters World tournament began in 1999, and is one of the largest youth soccer tournaments in the world. It offers talented youth players from around the world the opportunity to refine and showcase their footwork and soccer skills on an international stage.
