Eastern New York Partners With the Red Bulls in Kicking Off the Young Olympians Program
New York Youth Soccer News: Eastern New York is very happy to partner with the Red Bulls in developing our best players
The Eastern New York Young Olympians/Red Bulls Program was created through a partnership between the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) and the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer.
The program provides Eastern New York’s 11 affiliated youth leagues the opportunity to send its best players to train in the Eastern New York/Red Bulls program, providing a connection between Eastern New York and its more than 100,000 local players, and the New York Red Bull Youth Programs.
The Young Olympians Program, designed specifically for boys and girls born in 2008, is for players preparing for the Eastern New York Olympic Development Program (ODP). Kids will be selected for the multi-session program after two initial tryout sessions and will wear the blue-and-white Eastern New York ODP uniform with a Red Bulls logo on the right sleeve.
The Young Olympians program will focus on improving the player’s technical ability and tactical awareness while exposing players and parents to US Youth Soccer’s ODP environment.
“I am actually thrilled to be partnering with a pro organization like the Red Bulls who have a proven track record in developing young players. Several of their Academy players are now on their first team, including Tyler Adams who grew up playing in the East Hudson Youth Soccer League,” commented Eastern New York ODP Chairperson Jim Volpe. “Eastern New York ODP is all about creating pathways for players to develop, whether it’s a pathway to college or even on to the professional ranks.”
The program is accessible by tryout only (x2) and operates April through August (Spring/Summer). Selected players will take part in weekly training sessions in the spring conducted by New York Red Bulls coaching staff. During the summer, players will be invited to participate in exclusive week-long residential camps. The program, located regionally in five locations throughout Long Island, Staten Island, the rest of New York City and the Hudson Valley, provides an easily accessible training hub for regional players. The program is supplemental, which means players continue with their existing travel teams, while also training with the Eastern New York Young Olympians Program. To be eligible for the program, players must be registered with an Eastern New York member club.
In this its inaugural season, the program will be offered for both boys and girls in the Under-10 age group (2008). Year two of the program will see a further expansion into the Under-11 age group (2008 and 2009) as well.
