Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Announces the Pre-Tournament “Players to Watch” List
The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States, has released its annual pre-tournament “Players to Watch” list. Dr Pepper Dallas Cup will be celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2014, and will take place from Sunday, April 13 through Sunday, April 20.
Returning 2013 Gordon Jago Super Group Champion, Fulham FC, has reloaded its squad, and features two 17-year-old players, Patrick Roberts and Mousa Dembélé, who made their English Premier League debuts this past month. Additionally, local players Kellyn Acosta of FC Dallas and Trevor Haberkorn of Solar Chelsea, have been called-in by U.S. U20 Men’s National Team coach Tab Ramos. An intriguing matchup will take place on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Classic League Soccer Complex at Richland, as Anderlecht’s center back, Keander Dendoncker, looks to keep CD Guadalajara’s powerful target forward, Daniel Rios, off the score sheet. Rios is one of four players on the Chivas’ roster that are on the Mexican U20 Men’s National Team.
The new Super 17s age group will feature several players with national team experience that have represented their respective countries. Marco Ramkilde and Alexander Hansen, from Aalborg, have suited up for Denmark, whileVictor Göranzon and Felix Beijmo, of IF Brommapojkarna, have played for Sweden. U.S. U17 Men’s National Team forward Joe Gallardo has been added to the reigning U16 Champion, CF Monterrey.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s U15 team will be anchored by four German U15 National Team players: Lukas Rodwald, Sören Lippert; Davide Itter and Gian-Luca Itter. Also playing in the U15 division, the Colorado Rapids Development Academy team features U.S. U14 Boys National Team defender Sam Vines and the current Chivas USA head coach’s son, Wilmer Cabrera Jr.
The U13 division features strong U.S. representations from all corners of the country. Players to watch include Chivas USA’s Carlos Anguiano and John Hilton, and FC Dallas’ Jesus Ferreira, son of former FC Dallas player David Ferreira.
