Borussia Dortmund Sign Raphaël Guerreiro from FC Lorient
Borussia Dortmund sign Portuguese international Raphaël Guerreiro from Ligue 1 side FC Lorient ahead of 2016/2017 Bundesliga season. BVB aim to strengthen up its roster following the departure of captain Mats Hummels to FC Bayern Munich and midfielder İlkay Gündoğan to Manchester City.
Soccer News: Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Portuguese international and EURO 2016 participant Raphaël Guerreiro ahead of the new season. The 22-year old left defender has been awarded a four-year contract running until 30 June 2020.
“Raphaël Guerreiro is a skillful player who feels at home in a wide range of positions,” said BVB sporting director Michael Zorc.
Guerreiro possesses both Portuguese and French citizenship and moves to Dortmund on 1 July 2016 from Football Club Lorient-Bretagne Sud, with whom he has spent the last three seasons.
Equally at home on the left side of defense or attack, Guerreiro appeared in 34 of FC Lorient’s 38 Ligue 1 matches last season and has seven international caps and two goals for Portugal – the country of his father – to his name. In total, he made 102 appearances for Lorient, scoring ten goals.
BVB continue to bolster their roster following the departure of defender and captain Mats Hummels to FC Bayern Munich and midfielder İlkay Gündoğan to Manchester City.
Dortmund has brought in central defender Marc Bartra from FC Barcelona as well as Sebastian Rode from Bayern Munich.
