Youth Soccer News: Murrieta Surf Soccer Club has announced the hiring of Adam Skumawitz as Director of Coaches for the older girls’ program.
The former professional player will oversee all aspects of coaching for girls teams U12–U19 for Murrieta Surf. Skumawitz will be responsible for recruitment, technical and tactical development of the coaches and players.
As a senior at Cornell University, Skumawitz played on the 2000 Men’s Soccer roster as a forward. Coming in at 6’3″ and 190 lbs, Skumawitz proudly wore #18 and was a force on the field.
“We are absolutely delighted that Coach Adam has decided to join our club,” said Murrieta Surf Director of Coaching Steve Myles. “As far as I am concerned, he is without doubt the brightest talent in the valley.”
“It’s an exciting time to get involved in youth soccer in the Temecula/Murrieta area,” said Skumawitz. “Under Myles leadership, the club has grown tremendously and continues to take significant steps in the right direction.”
“This is my hometown and this is the club I will place my young children to learn the game I have spent most of my life playing and coaching.”
Skumawitz added, “I’m eager to get to work and find ways to positively impact the coaching and player development at Murrieta Surf!”
Murrieta Surf was established in order to develop a premier soccer club in the Murrieta/Temecula Valley region. The hiring of Skumawitz provides the club with a coach that has extensive experience and expertise, which builds upon the club’s goal of continuing to strengthen their program.
As well as being a USSF A license coach, Skumawitz brings with him a history of winning championships.
In 2015, Skumawitz won the Girls CYSA State National Championship and the Girls US Youth National Championship, which both added to his impressive list of 4 National League Championships and 5 Coast Soccer League Premier Championships.
Skumawitz was also recognized by Cal South and awarded the Excellence in Coaching Award.
“Skumawitz’s experience and professionalism along with his desire and high level of integrity are all complimented by his outstanding knowledge of the game. He will without doubt have a tremendous impact on our Girls Older (years 05 -99) program,” said Myles.
A Californian a heart, Skumawitz started to play soccer when he was growing up in the San Diego area and graduated from Fallbrook Union High School. Formerly with Carlsbad United — now LA Galaxy San Diego – Skumawitz formerly coached FC Elite U18 Girls. The team earned the title of 2015 US Youth Soccer U18 Girls National Champions and established new records along the way.
