San Diego Surf Thanksgiving Challenge Gears Up for 2016 Tournament
The countdown is on — the 2016 San Diego Surf Thanksgiving Challenge is only weeks away. Youth soccer coaches from all across the country are gearing up their U7-U14 teams and preparing for a holiday weekend of amazing soccer action in America’s Finest City.
Thanksgiving Day is a celebrated across America with turkey on Thursday — and if you are a soccer loving family, then you know the rest of the weekend is enjoyed on the soccer field. What better way to end the weekend than competition in a great Thanksgiving Tournament? The Surf Thanksgiving Challenge offers multiple brackets, so bring the teams and bring the family — and, get ready for a great time in San Diego.
Youth Soccer News: Surf Cup Sports is gearing up for its latest San Diego Surf Cup Thanksgiving Challenge that is set to be held November 25-27, 2016.
Matches will be held at various locations across San Diego including the majestic San Diego Polo Fields, La Jolla’s beautiful Allen Field, Cliffridge Park and Muirland, Hickman Athletic Complex, Ryan Park, 4S Ranch Sports Complex and Torrey Pines.
The tournament is just for youth soccer teams U7-U14 ages. (Youth soccer players ages U15 through U18 enjoy competing in the Surf College Cup.)
Surf Cup Thanksgiving Challenge’s Tournament Director Art Ramirez is looking forward to another great year of soccer after turkey. With a background of working with youth and professional soccer players and helping Americans play oversees, Ramirez is passionate on soccer. “We are looking forward to hundreds of youth soccer teams participating this year, ” said Ramirez.
“This tournament is a fabulous chance for teams to enjoy tough competition in a phenomenal environment. In years past, we have had teams travel from far and wide to compete and earn the title of Surf Cup Thanksgiving Champion. Who doesn’t want to come to San Diego in the end of November and play in this tournament? What a great way to kick of the holiday season,” said Ramirez.
The 2016 San Diego Surf Thanksgiving Challenge is a Class I Tournament; open to USYSA, US Club Soccer, Super Y League and FIFA affiliated teams and is Cal South sanctioned.
The tournament age groups will play in divisions of 16, 12 and 8 teams. Each team is guaranteed three games with bracket play held on Friday and Saturday. Semifinals and finals will take place Sunday.
Tournament Application
Teams are allowed 18 players for U-11 through U-14; 14 players for Under-7 through U-10. Age groups U-7,U-8, U-9 & U-10 will play 7v7, and U-11 will play 9v9.
