Semi-Finals Set for 2014 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Super Group
With Wednesday’s completion of group play for the Gordon Jago Super Group, the semi-finalists of the most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States have been determined.
The knock out stages of the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Super Group have a distinct South American flavor, as all three South American Super Group participants, Coritiba and Fluminense from Brazil, and River Plate from Argentina, advanced to the semi-finals. The fourth semifinalist will be the U.S. U20 Men’s National Team, which swept Bracket C, winning all three games. Coritiba, Fluminense, and the U.S. U20 National Team each secured their playoff berth by winning their respective brackets, while River Plate advances as the Wild Card by virtue of being the best second place team across all brackets.
The next round of the Super Group will kick off on Friday, April 18, at the Cotton Bowl, with Coritiba playing River Plate at 5:00 p.m., followed by Fluminense versus the U.S. U20 National Team at 7:30 p.m. The winners of the these two matchups will meet at 6:00 p.m. Sunday on the Cotton Bowl pitch for the right to hoist Dallas Cup’s Boot and Ball trophy.
Friday Night at the Cotton Bowl is also Dallas Is Diversity Night, celebrating the charitable arm of Dallas Cup Inc. The top five artists from this year’s Dallas Is Diversity calendars will be presented with a check for $250, while the teachers of the winning students will also receive prize money.
The remaining Dr Pepper Dallas Cup age groups will begin the knock-out stages on Thursday, April 17, at the Classic League Soccer Complex at Richland.
