Club Tijuana and Santos Laguna 1-1 Draw

Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Santos Laguna in Week 9 action of the LIGA MX. The draw extends the Xoloitzcuintles current unbeaten run to eight matches in league and 14 in all official competitions.
Club Tijuana came out attacking the Santos Laguna goal. Alfredo Moreno had a shot into an empty goal in the third minute of play after the Santos goalkeeper Federico Marchesin had come off his line to deny Dayro Moreno. Alfredo’s shot ended up being cleared on the goal line by a Santos defender with a diving header.
After the first few minutes, the home side was able to shake off the pressure from the Xoloitzcuintles. Diego Gonzalez rushed the Tijuana box in the 24th to meet a cross that flew in from the left hand side. Gonzalez beat out the Xoloitzcuintles defenders to open the scoring.

The visiting Xoloitzcuintles continued its pressure for an equalizing goal in the second half. Venezuelan midfielder Juan Arango came close with a free kick in the 52nd minute.
As Club Tijuana pushed men forward the home side was able to find spaces in the Xoloitzcuintles defensive areas that its speedy attackers took advantage of. Tijuana goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo made a difficult save from a point-blank range shot from Santos’ Javier Orozco in the 70th minute to keep the score 1-0.
The point sees the Xoloitzcuintles keep its top of the table position with 20 points. Next up for Club Tijuana is a duel for the top of the league when second place Veracruz (19 points) visit the Estadio Caliente.
