Seattle Sounders Women Win Season Opener
The Seattle Sounders Women opened the 2017 WPSL season with a hard-fought win versus North Shore Girls Soccer Club. The Sounders head on the road for their second matchup as they take on Issaquah Gunners this Friday.
WPSL Soccer News: The Seattle Sounders Women traveled to Vancouver, British Columbia, for their opening match of the 2017 Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) campaign at Windsor Secondary School. The Sounders Women edged North Shore Girls Soccer Club 3-2 to win the squad’s season opener.
NSGSC opened the scoring with a goal from Allyson Dickson in the 5th minute. The game went back and forth through the first half as the teams found their form. Maddy Schultz finally struck for the Sounders Women in the 45th minute to send the teams into the locker rooms at halftime tied 1-1.
As the second half kicked off, the Sounders Women struck early as Nia Gordon hammered home a second tally to give the Sounders Women the advantage. Almost immediately following the goal, NSGSC’s Aman Shergill found the back of the net. The game remained tied at 2-2 until a late winner from Schultz sealed the win for the Sounders Women.
On Friday, June 2, the Sounders Women open their home schedule at Sunset Stadium in Sumner, WA, versus the Issaquah Gunners. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT.
