USA Defeats Sweden 2-0 and Clinches Group F
It has been an exciting series of Women’s World Cup games, kicking off with the reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup™ champions’ USA setting a new record for scoring goals with a huge opening victory against Thailand. This was followed by a strong showing with another victory against Chile and today, our country defeated Sweden in the third match of group play.
Lindsey Horan scored and depending upon your view, Tobin Heath scored or looked like she assisted in an own goal by Andersson, bringing the final score to USA 2-0 Sweden. Heath’s goal goes down in the history books as the 18th for the U.S. in group play, breaking a record of goals scored in 1995 by Norway.
“It’s a good performance and we wanted to continue to build momentum,” Head Coach Jill Ellis told a news conference after the match.
Not conceding a goal in the group stage is a great start to build on.
Now, everyone is cordially invited to the #USWNT‘s Super Sweet 16
