Two San Diego Surf Players Receive South American National Team Call Ups
The mission of San Diego Surf Soccer Club is to build premier soccer players and teams. This includes the development and overall placement of Surf SC’s youth soccer players as they progress to pursue their career goals. Dedicated to helping their players gain roster spots on top colleges and universities across the USA — as well as play professional soccer here and abroad, Surf SC is proud to announce two of their players are receive call ups to South American National Teams .
San Diego’s elite youth soccer club, Surf SC, is happy to report that two youth soccer players, Bianca Caetano-Ferrara and Mia Shalit have been called up to South American National Teams. It is always an honor to be asked to represent your country, especially on the soccer field.
Caetano-Ferrara received the call to play with the GU17 Brazilian Women’s National Team and Shalt will report for the GU17 Peruvian Women’s National Team.
The Details on Bianca:
Bianca Caetano-Ferrara was selected to play with the GU17 Brazilian Women’s National Team. Caetano-Ferrara is a member of the Surf GU18 ECNL team. She will be traveling to Rio de Janeiro for a training camp in February, and will follow that up by joining the team again in March to compete for the South American Championship in Venezuela.
“Bianca is a special player. She has all sorts of ability and that is shown by her ability to play up 2 years on my U18 team. More than that though she has been a great character person,” said Surf GU18 ECNL coach Sean Ganey.
“It’s not easy to fit in with an older established group like the U18’s with 4 youth U.S. National Team players,” said Ganey. “Bianca has done so seamlessly and the girls treat her as one of their own. For me this speaks volumes about who she is as a person. The girls all see how high her work rate is, as well as her want to improve all aspects of her game. She is consistently asking for feedback on how she played, along with what she can improve and work on outside of training. All of these characteristics have served her well and the Brazilian National Team call up is well deserved. I am fortunate to have worked with her in the short time I’ve been with her and look forward to seeing what she can do on the club stage and the international stage as well.”
The Details on Mia:
Mia Shalit was selected to play goalkeeper for the GU17 Peruvian Women’s National Team. Shalit came to Surf last year looking to play goalkeeper for the club, and ended up with coach Brian Wood and his GU14 EGSL team. Over the course of this season through hard work and dedication, 13 year old Shalit has earned a spot on the Girls 2002 ECNL team for the upcoming 2015/2016 season. Shalit will be preparing for Peru’s qualification run in March.
“Having the opportunity to coach Mia this past year was not only a privilege, but a fulfilling experience for me,” said Surf GU14 EGSL coach Brian Wood. “In coaching, we’ll have players who work hard, strive to improve and develop one year to the next — and then there’s Mia. Her relentless commitment and internal desire to refine her craft is exceptionally special. All of her future accomplishments on and off the field will frankly never surprise me.”
