The Best of the Best Youngers Champions Were Crowned Yesterday at Surf Cup – Rivalry Between Local San Diego Clubs Clear
The prestigious San Diego Surf Cup second weekend just concluded — and all 2017 Surf Cup Champions have been crowned. The BU13 Super Black Final was a battle between two rival San Diego youth soccer clubs, San Diego Surf SC and Albion SC — with great action streaming from the field for all to enjoy. 
Youth Soccer News: The annual San Diego Surf Cup ended yesterday as the Best of the Best elite youth teams from across the country and abroad gather on the field for the Surf Cup Finals.
While many of the elite youth soccer players traveled many miles to compete in the 2017 Surf Cup — in fact, 16,872 elite youth soccer players travel an amazing estimated 53,699,588 miles hoping to take home a highly coveted 2017 Surf Cup trophy — the BU13 Final was between two local San Diego youth soccer clubs.

Coached by Benoit David, the Surf SC team was triumphant and emerged as the champions with a 4-1 final score and the intensity of the rivalry between the teams was unmistakable.
While professional soccer is known for its fierce rivalries between clubs and coaches — like the competition between Guardiola and Mourinho, there is no rivalry like the constrained one between youth soccer teams.
The action on the field offered strong back and forth possession between these two teams and all the young players demonstrated strong passion and mental toughness as the battle endured until the final whistle.
Both coaches — Albion SC’s Wayne Crowe and Surf SC’s Benoit David — could be heard on occasion, positively encouraging their players from the sideline.
Asking how did it feel to win Surf Cup 2017 with the Surf SC Boys 2005, Head Coach Benoit David said, “Joy, joy for the players especially after the emotions of losing recently in the final in the U12 Junior World Championships on penalties.”
“We learned from the experience, worked hard these last couple of weeks and it was nice to see the boys put in good performances with style,” said Benoit David.
“The Surf Cup Bu13 Final was a good entertaining game that showcased top level teams here in San Diego,” said Noah Gins, Albion SC Executive Director. “The game brought out good soccer on both sides and for these young players moving into the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, this final offered their last real tournament experience for the year.”
“This is my first Surf Cup win ever,” added the highly talented youth soccer coach. “Since the beginning, this team has solely worked on building out of the back, strong ball possession and circulation around the field and pressing from the front.”
“The Surf SC Boys 2005 (U13 DA team) have been together for 3 months,” said Benoit David. “I love these boys — they push me to be better, always demanding more and more. Their joy is infectious and they’re generous in their efforts for one another. I’m truly lucky to be able to call myself their coach.”
“Surf Cup is part of our pre-season program, and we still have a lot of work to do though to prepare for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy season,” added Benoit David.
Josh Henderson, Senior Director of Coaching at Surf SC, was pleased with the result and said, “All of our coaches have worked to prepare our teams for Surf Cup 2017 and this is a fabulous way to start the new 2017/18 soccer season. I want to thank all the players for their hard work and the families for their support.”
“This was a good showing — in our first event as a DA team — to reach the final of Surf Cup,” said Albion SC coach Crowe. “We had a tough bracket with some great games in the group stages and I am proud of our boys.”
“It is great to see Albion SC represented in all the finals of the USSDA age groups within Surf Cup – B05 DA Finalist, B04 DA Champions, B03 DA Finalist and B01 DA Finalist,” added Crowe.”
