Be A Part of History as Albion Pros Launch San Diego’s Outdoor Pro Team
Defining a culture of professionalism and great soccer action on the field – San Diego’s Albion Pros takes shape with successful tryouts and pre-season camp. Promising a great game day experience, the Albion Pros first home game on March 5th is not to be missed.
One of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) expansion teams for 2016, San Diego’s Albion SC Pros are selecting their roster and forming their new team for the upcoming season in the West Region’s Southwest Conference. Albion SC Pros is an extension of the nationally recognized youth club based in San Diego and will serve as a Senior Team.
The NPSL team is led by Executive Director/General Manager Noah Gins, Director of Operations and Marketing Nick Surface, Director of Soccer Wayne Crowe, and Head Coach Ziggy Korytoski.
“The Albion Pros will be San Diego’s most professional men’s soccer team and our tryouts were hugely successful,” said Gins. “More than 150 players attended the tryout for the Albion Pros – it was a monster response and we have signed excellent players.”
The Albion Pros coaching staff evaluated over 200 soccer players, many of whom had played soccer on second division European teams and the USL or NPSL previously. Several San Diego Sockers players also were welcomed at tryouts. Head Coach Korytoski, selected fifty players to attend the pre-season training camp.
“The pre-season camp is just ending and these players are making it hard on us to select the final roster — which is great. The players trying out have a lot of talent and dedication. As the Albion Pros takes shape, it defines our culture. We are so serious and professional, the rewards will be the end results.”
Albion Pros has narrowed the player pool down to 40 players and is starting to announce the signing of their initial 28 player roster. The Albion Pros train four days at week at 7am. The main core of players are in their mid-to-late twenties with several players coming off the collegiate circuit and enjoying this first step into the professional ranks of soccer.
Among the Albion Pros signings this week are San Diego Sockers players Raymundo Reza, Danny Delgado and Jeff Hughes who have signed on for the 2016 National Premier Soccer League season.
“We may sign more players from the 40 player talent pool —the commitment and the level of play will help us evaluate the players performance. This is the normal processional process. Players have to be consistent and perform day in and day out, at a high level and the players who can achieve this will represent our team.”
How involved is Gins? “I am very involved. I was there through the whole tryout process. As the GM, I have watched the players in training and observed their level of performance, always talking to our head coach,” said Gins. “Korytoski and the entire coaching staff is doing an amazing job assembling and organizing the team into something San Diego can be very proud of. We chose to play in the NPSL and look forward to kicking off our season. I believe the term will be ready to compete at a USL level right out of the gate.”
Albion Soccer Club is proud to have five home grown players on the NPSL roster.
Oscar Ortega who played on the U17 Men’s National Team and who had several scholarship offers.
Jose Merlo who has just graduated from USD and played in 4 US Youth Soccer National championships for Albion SC.
Johnny Zurita, who according to Gins, was one of the most talented youth player to ever play at Albion SC and has not been active on the soccer scene since 2011. “Zurita has emerged at these tryouts and still has that same incredible ability to play the game,” said Gins.
Marquise Brooks who joined Albion SC when he was a U11 and went on to play pro soccer and has returned to San Diego. “Brooks is an amazing athlete – a 6’3” football-like player who will bring a lot of strength and athleticism to the team,” said Gins.
Luis Cardona who joined Albion SC as a U14 player and played soccer professionally in Costa Rica. Cardona was offered to play in Italy and is now back to play with the Albion Pros.
With Delta Airlines as their title sponsor, the Albion Pros first home game is on March 5th. “Albion SC players wearing their Albion jersey will receive free admission,” said Gins who is also the Technical Director of the Albion Soccer Club. “We want our youth players to have access to see their local professional players play great soccer.”
