Christian Chaney of Fresno Fuego is Named PDL Player of the Week
Christian Chaney of Fresno Fuego is named PDL Player of the Week for the third round of matches in the 2016 PDL regular season. Chaney tallied four goals in the Fuego’s 6-2 victory over the Las Vegas Mobsters on Thursday as well as scored a header to top the Mobsters in a rematch over the weekend.
Soccer News: Fresno Fuego forward Christian Chaney has been voted PDL Player of the Week after scoring five goals in two games during Week 3 of the 2016 regular season.
Chaney’s incredible week began on Thursday when he scored four goals in a 6-2 rout of Central Pacific Division rivals the Las Vegas Mobsters at Chukchansi Park. The forward then scored a header to help the Fuego to a 2-1 win in the rematch game against the Mobsters on Saturday.
PDL Team of the Week
GK – Kyle Ihn, Kokomo Mantis FC: Ihn, a rising senior with the Green Bay Phoenix, made two saves against a strong St. Louis Lions side to help Mantis FC record its first shutout of the regular season in the team’s home-opening 2-0 win at Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
D – Callum Montgomery, Victoria Highlanders FC: Montgomery was solid in the back for Highlanders FC, which faced tough attacking opponents in the Portland Timbers U-23s and Lane United FC. He played all 90 minutes in both Highlanders FC games on Friday and Saturday, and helped the team record its second shutout of the season against Lane United.
D – Barry McCabe, San Francisco City FC: McCabe played all 90 minutes and scored the game-winner in a 2-1 victory against the Ventura County Fusion on Saturday.
D – Daniel Nimmo, Ocean City Nor’easters: Nimmo kept the Baltimore Bohemians at bay, helping Ocean City record a 3-0 shutout victory on the road in its season opener.
D – Marvin Hezel, FC Miami City: Hezel played 180 minutes in Week 3, helping Miami City earn four points against the South Florida Surf and Palm Beach Suns FC. Hezel was instrumental for Miami City in the team’s first shutout of the season against the Surf.
M – Mohamed Kenawy, FC Boston: Kenawy led FC Boston to its first win – a 3-1 result – of the regular season with two goals against FA Euro New York at Mount Ida College.
M – Paul Marie, Reading United AC: Marie, a rising junior at Florida International University, scored two goals to lead Reading United to a 5-0 victory over Evergreen FC on the road at the Evergreen Sportsplex.
M – Wesley Stark, Washington Crossfire: Stark has been extremely active for the Crossfire, playing all 270 minutes of the team’s games in Week 3 and scoring the game-winner against the Kitsap Pumas on Monday, May 16.
F – Russell Cicerone, Michigan Bucks: Cicerone, the 2015 MAC Player of the Year, netted two goals in the Bucks’ 6-0 victory over 2015 PDL champion K-W United FC at the Ultimate Soccer Arena on Saturday.
F – Christian Chaney, Fresno Fuego: Chaney shined in two games against the Mobsters during Week 3, scoring four goals in a match on Thursday before heading in another goal on Saturday.
F – Austin Ricci, K-W United FC: Ricci, a rising junior at Oakland University, netted three goals on the road in K-W United’s 7-0 win against Toronto FC Academy at the Kia Training Ground.
