Kristina Fisher of the University of Miami is named NSCAA College Player of the Week after leading her side with three goals and three assists in two matches. Fisher is the first Hurricane since 2008 to score multiple goals in a season opener as well as the second freshman to record two goals in the opening match of the season.
College Soccer News: University of Miami freshman Kristina Fisher earned the first NSCAA College Player of the Week award of the 2016 season.
Fisher made her collegiate debut by becoming the first Hurricane since 2008—and fifth all-time—with multiple goals in a season opener, and the second player with five-plus points in the first match of a season. She also became the second Miami freshman to record two goals in a season opener.
Against North Florida, she started and recorded two goals, one assist and six shots in just 49 minutes of play. She followed up later in the weekend with a goal and two additional assists in the team’s match against Stetson.
“I am proud of Kristina for earning this award,” Miami head coach Mary-Frances Monroe said. “She had a wonderful week, scoring some great goals and adding some assists. She is going to be really fun to watch play this season.”
The NSCAA College Players of the Week are announced every Tuesday throughout the college regular season on NSCAA’s website. Winners will include a men’s and women’s winner from all three NCAA divisions and the Junior College level.
