NPSL Soccer News: Elm City Express forward Tavoy “Bull” Morgan has received Mitre National Player of the Week honors for the fifteenth week of the 2017 NPSL season.
The Elm City Express striker earned his first starting spot on the squad in the June 17th home match against Greater Lowell NPSL FC. He made quite an impact by scoring four goals within forty minutes, leading his side to a 5-0 victory.
“I feel great about the season, we’re working hard, I feel we deserve the results we’ve seen so far and it is a great feeling to have been named Mitre National Player of the Week, I’m very proud and thankful for that,” said Morgan. “I feel like my style has changed since the start of the season, and that’s all about my teammates, playing with this great bunch of guys. We teach each other, we learn, we work hard, and we have been getting the results.”
In his second start on June 20th, Morgan found the net once, leading his side to a 3-0 victory over the Brooklyn Italians on Tuesday night.
“Bull has been fantastic,” said Elm City Express head coach Teddy Haley. “Like a true pro he learned from his early appearances and used our training sessions to get sharper. His energy and spirit has driven him to evolve as an attacking player in our system. He is a student of the game and I love working with such a true raw talent, who in my opinion has the ability to play at a very high level.”
Hailing from Saint Catherine, Jamaica, Morgan played competitive ball for the U13s in the Saint Catherine Parish League. From there, he was recruited to play for the U17 Jamaica Reggae squad, where he was the youngest player on the team. He would later represent Saint Catherine in the First Division, where in 2013 he was named league MVP, best junior player, leading the league in scoring. Morgan played high school soccer in the U.S., and in early 2017 was a regular at Elm City Express tryouts.
“Bull’s a great personality to have on the squad,” said Elm City Express captain Sean O’Brien. “We always knew he had goals in him, we see it in practice every week. He had to be patient to get his chance to start because of the other talent we have, but when his chance came he grabbed it with both hands and put four in.”
