Cody Shelton Named NPSL Player of the Week
Cody Shelton of Deportivo Coras USA has been selected as the Mitre National Player of the Week after scoring his first hat trick during the club’s 6-0 victory against City of Angels FC last weekend. The Riverside club takes on Albion SC PROS at UC Riverside this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. PT.
NPSL Soccer News: Riverside Coras forward/defender Cody Shelton has been named the first Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2017 NPSL season.
“I feel extremely blessed and fortunate for being awarded the first Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2017 season,” said Shelton. “I definitely couldn’t have done it without the hard work, support, and opportunities given to me by my teammates, coaching staff, and the Coras organization as a whole.”
Shelton scored the first hat trick of his career and the first in club history during Riverside’s 6-0 win over City of Angels FC.
“Cody was acquired three seasons ago from Kitsap Pumas in Washington,” Riverside Coras President Rob Lopez said. “He wanted to play closer to home. Born and raised in the Inland Empire, homegrown and a talented collegiate player, it was a natural fit for him to join his brother Shane at Riverside Coras. Cody immediately demonstrated his skills, leadership, and the passion to win every single game.”
The Joshua Tree, California native was a four-year starter at Biola University in La Mirada, California, earning three All-GSAC and two All-American honors.
“Coras is an amazing local club that’s given me the opportunity to continue playing the game I love with some of my best friends and even my older brother,” Shelton concluded.
The winner of this weekly honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the league. It is awarded every week during the regular season.
