Zach Steinberger Named NASL Player of the Week
Zach Steinberger of Jacksonville Armada FC has been named NASL Player of the Week for the second straight occasion. The 25-year-old midfielder continues his dominance in 2017 as he brings his league-leading tally to six goals — four in the last two matches.
NASL Soccer News: Zach Steinberger has received North American Soccer League (NASL) Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after leading Jacksonville Armada FC with a brace in a 2-1 victory over North Carolina FC.
The former Butler University standout found the back of the net twice within a two-minute span at Hodges Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In the 30th minute, the 25-year-old teed up teammate Jack Blake for a shot that ultimately rebounded to the Long Beach native. After firing home the opener, he didn’t waste any time getting a second for Armada FC. Just two minutes after gaining the advantage, defender Drew Beckie curled in a beautiful cross that Steinberger poked home.
Jacksonville ended up holding on to claim three points. A pair of wins has now put the third-year side in second place behind league-leading Miami FC.
Steinberger is the first Armada FC player to be named NASL Player of the Week in consecutive weeks, and dating back to last season, he has now received the award on three occasions.
The 5-foot-11 midfielder is having a career season thus far with six goals and an assist to his name through nine matches. He was with Jacksonville on loan last season, recording four goals and four assists in 20 appearances for the club.
He was a prominent youth player in Orange County before moving onto the IMG Academy and ultimately Europe. He spent 2009 with FC VSS Kosice and 2010-2011 with German side Karlsruher SC prior to playing in college at Butler in Indianapolis.
Jacksonville Armada FC will host USL side Charleston Battery in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday before hosting first-place Miami FC at Hodges Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff for both games will be at 7 p.m. ET.
