Wilmington Hammerheads Sign Liam Miller For 2016 USL Season
Hammerheads FC are bringing in some heavy hitters as the 2016 USL season approaches in the coming months. Irish midfielder Liam Miller has signed for the North Carolina club having spent part of his career in the Premier League with Manchester United as well as representing the Ireland National Team.
Soccer News from Hammerheads FC: Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced the signing of experienced midfielder Liam Miller to the 2016 USL regular season roster, pending FIFA ITC approval.
Miller has an impressive resume featuring over 300 Professional appearances, 10 Champions League appearances, over 120 English Premier League appearances and over 20 international appearances. The Irish native began his notable professional career with Celtic F.C. of the Scottish Premier League, where he played for four years before joining Manchester United in 2004. After two seasons with the Red Devils, he continued play in the English Premier League appearing for Sunderland A.F.C. 57 times, and eventually joined the Queens Park Rangers F.C. roster. Miller will be joining the Hammerheads from Cork City F.C. in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
“Liam is a fantastic addition to our roster and the club,” said Head Coach Mark Briggs. “He brings a wealth of experience from a glittering playing career. Adding a player like Liam shows the direction the club wants to head in.”
Miller also brings strong International experience to the club, having played with the Republic of Ireland, where he scored his first international goal in a 3-0 win over Sweden.
“I am looking forward to the season starting and to success with the Hammerheads,” said Miller. “It will be a new and exciting challenge for me personally.”
Miller will be the first player of his caliber to play for the Hammerheads, and one of the most notable players in league history.
