Empire State Building to Shine for FC Barcelona’s Partnership with UNICEF
The Empire State Building will shine on Wednesday night in celebration of FC Barcelona Foundation’s 10-year global partnership with UNICEF. The FC Barcelona Foundation looks to provide children with positive values through sporting activities in order to promote healthy development.
Soccer News: The Empire State Building will celebrate FC Barcelona Foundation’s 10-year global partnership with UNICEF by illuminating its world-famous tower lights in red and blue on Wednesday, September 7.
FC Barcelona legend and soccer superstar Ronaldinho and club Vice President Jordi Cardoner as well as representatives from UNICEF will participate in the ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building.
In this decade-long alliance, the FC Barcelona Foundation has donated nearly $17 million to UNICEF and reached more than one million children in seven countries. To mark the anniversary, FC Barcelona and UNICEF have extended their partnership for four additional years, with the club’s annual donation increasing to nearly $2.3 million.
Since its founding in 1994, the FC Barcelona Foundation has helped people take part in the many social, cultural and sporting activities that the Club has carried out, a reflection of the Club’s and the Foundation’s role in such activities. FC Barcelona Foundation projects are all developed based according to the following premises: the use of sport as a fundamental pillar of the project; the promotion of education and the positive values of sport; children and adolescents as the prime beneficiaries; projecting Catalonia through FC Barcelona.
The FC Barcelona Foundation, on the basis of experience in the field of sport and values, proposes a program of action aimed at transmitting positive values to children and adolescents, which involves sporting activities as a means to promote healthy development. This work is consistent with the values of FC Barcelona and prioritizes the development of projects in Catalonia. As of 2010, the players and coaching staff from the professional sections of the Club also donate 0.5% of their wages to the Foundation.
