Chiapas Tie Game With Injury Time Penalty Kick
Soccer News: Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles played to a 1-1 draw against visiting Chiapas FC in a Week 10 of the LIGA MX Tuesday night at Estadio Caliente.
Second half substitute Jose Garcia scored for Club Tijuana while Silvio Romero scored for Chiapas in the 2015 Apertura match.
Garcia scored in the 83rd minute when he tapped in a cross from Dayro Moreno that came into the mouth of the goal from left to right. Club Tijuana’s Gabriel Hauche got his foot on Moreno’s cross before it found Garcia alone near the goal line to send in the ball past Chiapas FC goalkeeper Jorge Villalpando.
The Xoloitzcuintles lead would not last long. Chiapas FC tied the match when Romero converted a penalty kick in injury time. He sent his shot to the left of Club Tijuana goalkeeper Federico Vilar. Club Tijuana was whistled for the penalty kick when Aviles Hurtdo and Xoloitzcuintles captain Javier Gandolfi collided near the end line as they contested a ball. Aviles fell to the ground, prompting the referee’s whistle.
Club Tijuana settled for one more point in the standings. Coach Romano’s team is now 4-5-1 with 13 points in the standings.
The Xoloitzcuintles tried to mount a late rally when Hauche, a second half substitute, sent a shot at goal but sailed just wide of the right post in injury time, but his shot didn’t count. He was a whistled offside on the play.
Romano’s teams spent most of the match looking for spaces and create a rhythm, as it possessed the ball. As a result, it was able to create a handful of scoring opportunity by feeding Moreno balls into the penalty area.
Perhaps its clearest chance before Garcia’s goal came in the 26th minute when Moreno, the team’s leading scorer, broke up field and fired a right-footed blast that hit the right post. He fired his shot from about 25-yards out, catching Villalpando off guard.
Chiapas thought it had scored in the 40th minute when it found the back of the net on a cross into the area, beating Vilar. But the goal was disallowed. Chiapas was whistled offsides on the play.
Club Tijuana will now had on a long road trip as it visits CD Toluca Tuesday 29 in a Week 11 match. The team then travels to face Queretaro FC in a Week 12 match Friday Oct. 2
