Next Up for Club Tijuana Is The Week 9 Match Vs Long Time Rivals Club Leon
Soccer News: There is always something special about facing that one opponent where things mean more. Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles travel to Leon, Guanajuato where it will face longtime rival Club Leon in Week 9 action of LIGA MX.
“It is a tough venue. The fans are always supporting,” said Xoloitzcuintles midfielder Jose Maria ‘Chema’ Cardenas following the team’s final practice session at Estadio Caliente before traveling to central Mexico Wednesday.
Cardenas knows the opponents very well. He played for Leon last year and early 2015.
“I was able to play with them. I think it is one of the best midfields in Mexican soccer,” Cardenas said. “They are a dynamic team that likes to attack. We will try to take advantage of the spaces they give, try to put away our chances.”
Club Tijuana is coming off two straight wins against Monarcas Morelia and Chivas Guadalajara and will look to its rival Club Leon to extend the streak.
“Against Chivas we all had a good game,” Cardenas said. “That is the standard of what we are looking for. We hope it is the start of a good run in which we can get things done.”
Cardenas’ teammate, goalkeeper Federico Vilar is confident on getting the club’s first ever win at Leon’s Nou Camp in first division play.
“Every game is different,” Vilar said. “We have to face this one with the seriousness it deserves. We have been a solid team on the road. We have been able to become accurate up top scoring goals which have allowed us to win games.
“I think come game time everything else won’t matter and we’ll have to execute inside of the field. It is always important to win and to be in playoff qualification zone. You have to look to get the win. We have to do whatever it takes to get the points.”
