Ecuadorian striker Miller Bolaños and Argentine Forward Gustavo Bou converted penalty kicks and Rubio Rubin scored late in a 3-0 Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles win against Chivas de Guadalajara Friday night.
It was Club Tijuana who showcased a fluid brand of soccer in the LIGA MX Week 15 match that had Bolaños scoring seven minutes into the match. The early goal. Bou extended the lead in the 40th minute, beating Chivas goalkeeper Miguel Jimenez.
Bolaños converted his penalty kick after Chivas’ Jair Pereira was whistled for a hand ball. Bou took the second penalty kick after Martin Lucero was pulled down on a run by Benjamin Galindo. Rubin, a United States national team player, scored his first goal with Tijuana in the 84th minute. The Oregon native took a ball on a sprint and beat Jimenez one-on-one.
The win helps the Xoloitzcuintles to three more points in the standings. Coach Diego Cocca’s team is now 5-4-6 with 21 points, helping its cause to move up the 2018 standings and remain in playoff position. Club Tijuana has two regular season matches remaining. It’s last road match in Week 16 at Club Leon Saturday April 21. Coach Diego Cocca’s team ends the regular season with a home match against Toluca April 27.
