“These girls are some of the best youth players in the game, and we know this experience will help them continue to reach their goals,” said US Club Soccer Executive Vice President Christian Lavers. “It’s a high-energy environment that will give them new challenges and confidence for the future.”
The 2016 ECNL/id² National Training Camp officially concludes the National Selection programming element for the id² age group cycle of girls born in 2001 and boys born in 2002. In February, US Club Soccer brought 18 top boys players to Spain to compete against academy teams of FC Barcelona, Valencia CF, Villarreal CF and RCD Espanyol.
The current age group cycle, targeting 2003 boys and 2002 girls, enters the fall portion of its training camp cycle. US Club Soccer will host a camp in September and December for those age groups. National Selection programming then follows four id² Training Camps per year.
During the ECNL/id² National Training Camp, participants compete with and against other top youth players in the country and are coached by an impressive staff of coaches. The camp is multi-faceted with training sessions and games on the field, as well as presentations and attendance at the Portland Thorns/Seattle Reign NWSL match, July 30. U.S. Soccer staff will also scout players for potential inclusion in future National Team programming.
It is hosted by ECNL, US Club Soccer and Nike. In alignment with the core values of the id² Program, there is no cost to players to participate and selections were made regardless of U.S. Soccer affiliation. It is sanctioned as an Olympic Development Program by U.S. Soccer and the United States Olympic Committee.
The full camp roster, including ECNL selections, is available here, and a tentative schedule may be accessed here. This is the fourth year of the National Selection programming element for the girls id² Program.
